People who are involved at the Center say that the opportunity
to volunteer is what makes our Center unique. Your friends and
neighbors, with staff support, make the Center work. Volunteers
serve in leadership and advisory roles, teach classes, lead
activities, entertain the community and much, much more.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES FOR STUDENTS AND/OR COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS AT THE SENIOR CENTER
Below is a list of potential volunteer opportunities for students and/or community volunteers at the Senior Center. The Center also houses other agencies that serve older adults in different capacities.
THE KINGSPORT SENIOR CENTER, open Monday through Saturday, is an activity center that serves adults 50 years of age and older. No one lives here. We are similar to a community college and offer a wide array of classes and activities that promote wellness, individual growth, healthy aging and independence. Our primary volunteer focus is to provide opportunities for older adults to share their skills and talents with their peers. Younger volunteers are also recruited to assist their elders to accomplish this goal or to offer assistance when no older volunteers can be found. Below is a partial listing of possible volunteer opportunities for community/student volunteers. This list is in no way meant to be all-inclusive. We are expert at creatively placing volunteers who truly wish to work with older adults.
Work as a special event volunteer helping plan special programs, e.g., style shows, guest speakers, panel discussions, fundraisers etc.
Teach classes, e.g., computer classes, applied arts, visual arts, arts appreciation, art exhibits, literature & writing courses, health & fitness programs, dance classes and/or organizing monthly evening dances, ceramics, quilting, woodworking, needle craft, cooking, support groups, foreign languages, current issues presentations and/or discussions, and anything else one might have in terms of skills to share.
Assist with special projects, i.e., volunteer recognition event, annual Omega Challenge, annual health/Wellness Fair, etc
