TRANSPORTATION
The Senior Center offers frequent out-of-town trips to seniors to places
such as the dinner theater in Wytheville, the Barter Theater in Abingdon,
Biltmore and the arboretum in Asheville, area shopping centers, and
regional restaurants. For these trips the Center operates two vehicles for
their own exclusive use: a 15 passenger van and a 22 passenger bus that is
handicap accessible. Transportation fees are $2/person for local trips and
$5/person for out-of-town destinations.
For local public transportation, the Kingsport Area Transportation System (KATS) will pick up members of the Senior Center Monday through Friday within the city limits of Kingsport.
If a member lives within the City limits, the Kingsport Area Transit will provide
free transportation to and from the Senior Center.
There is a wide variety of vehicles to
help you get where you want to go. All of the KATS vehicles are
clean, safe and well-maintained for your comfort and safety.
The experienced drivers are always courteous and want to make sure
that you arrive at your destination safe and on time.
The vehicles are equipped with air-conditioning, wheelchair lifts for ADA Paratransit patrons, emergency exits and high back seats to provide a more pleasant ride. Additionally, all vehicles are designated as nonsmoking.
The KATS Transit Center is completely enclosed from the weather; riders can relax in the transit lobby while waiting to transfer to another bus.
For schedule and route information call KATS at 224-2613. Information services are open Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
To read more about ADA programs, fares, or routes, please go to the KATS web site.
