NUTRITION Mission: The Nutrition Program is a unit of the First Tennessee Human Resource Agency and provides hot, nutritious meals five days a week at the Kingsport Senior Center. Each meal provides a minimum of at least 1/3 of the Recommended Daily Allowance and approximately 500-600 calories. Although no one is denied a meal for inability to pay, contributions are encouraged. The congregate meals program also provides an opportunity for socialization. SUGGESTED DONATIONS
If you plan to eat in the cafeteria, please sign up by noon two days before or call (423) 246-8060 for reservations. Monthly menus are posted in the cafeteria and are also available at the online Nutrition Program Menu. Lunch is served Monday thru Friday at 11:30 am.
Home Delivered Meals which provide 1/3 of the Required Dietary Allowance are delivered five days a week by volunteers to the frail elderly who have been assessed by the First Tennessee Human Resource Agency. Discharge Planners from hospitals and nursing homes may order temporary meals for one month for frail discharges, without going through the assessment process. Frozen weekend meals are available on a limited basis. As in the congregate meals program, no one is denied a meal for inability to pay. However, if there are waiting lists, individuals or families may sponsor their meals for a fee, until a slot becomes available.
The Kingsport Senior Center Nutrition Program is currently
in desperate need of drivers to deliver meals to the
homebound. For more information on volunteering or the meal program at the Center, contact:
