Why Dance?

Dancing is great exercise! Dancing is one of the most physically and socially rewarding activities you can bring to your life. Did you know that dancing can burn as many calories as walking, swimming or riding a bike? During a half hour of sustained dancing you can burn between 200 and 400 calories. Dancing is also great for cardiovascular conditioning and building strong bones and muscles. Furthermore, dancing that requires you to remember dance steps and sequences boosts brain power by improving memory skills.

Dancing can strengthen relationships. Dancing is something couples can enjoy and work on together! Why spend your free time apart? Start a new challenge that will allow you to stay active, spend time together, and learn a new skill that will allow you to grow together!

Dancing is a great way to make new friends. At the area dances and classes, you'll have the opportunity to socialize with others who share the same interests. Attend our social dance events and you'll find yourself making new friends and building the strong social ties that contribute to self-esteem and a positive outlook on life.

Dancing will make you smile! Many dancers will tell you that dancing is their passion. In any case, it is sure to become a favorite pastime, and a wonderful way to break away from the stresses of life. Impress your friends - have fun at parties! Don't spend another minute stuck in your seat watching others have a good time! With only a few basic steps you'll have the tools and the confidence to enjoy yourself on the dance floor.

Corporate Sponsors

The Kingsport Ballroom Dance Committee is organized under the wings of The Friends of the Kingsport Senior Center , a 501c non-profit organization. This Committee organizes and manages 1-2 dances per month. Most of the dances have live band music and are held at Rascals Teen Center in Kingsport. This Committee receives no funding from the City of Kingsport nor from the Kingsport Senior Center, and depends on the dance admission fees and a few Corporate sponsors to meet expenses.
